My House Shall Be Called A House Of Prayer
The people of Living Hope Community Church and Iglesia Esperanza Viviente believe strongly that the Lord is calling us to pray. We believe Jesus calls us to have strong, vibrant, consistent individual prayer lives. We also believe the Lord calls us to pray together as a group.
Scripture confirms prayer as vital to any life or ministry:
- Jesus modeled prayer for us:
Luke 5:16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
- Jesus teaches that His house will be called a house of prayer:
Matthew 21:13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it a den of robbers.'”
- The New Testament repeatedly exhorts us to pray:
Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray continually;
Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
1 Timothy 2:8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
- The New Testament also gives us multiple examples of the church praying together:
Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Acts 12:5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
Acts 4:31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
We as a church want to obey the Lord wholeheartedly in every way but we especially want to obey the Lord when it comes to being a church that prays. We meet several times each month to pray together. And we have seen the Lord respond so many times! His answers are perfect and on time. He is so good!
God is transforming our lives as we learn to pray. He is answering. Due to Covid, we now meet for prayer via Zoom. If you’d like to participate or submit a prayer request to pastorscott@elivinghope.org
